Water is , in almost any Cenote, of an impressive transparency. Underwater visibility around 30 to 50 mt is standard. The following pictures show the underwater walls of Grand Cenote; pictures seem to be taken outside of water. The great number of stalactites and stalagmites seen during a scuba dive in a cenote show the great changes in water level during the centuries With some rare exceptions (Cenotes connected to the sea), streams are totally absent. This favours sedimentation and consequently the transparency of water.
