A detail , in the following picture, of the pottery fragments mixed to decomposing leaves on the bottom of the Cenote; a sign of the past human presence in the area. Some Cenotes look more like swimming pools than wells. It's the case of Cenote Azul , placed midway on the road between Akumal beach and Playa del Carmen in the Tulum surroundings. The bottom of the Cenote is sometimes covered with green algaes that contribute to give to this waters an emerald color. Cenote Azul is managed by local farmers more as an amusement
park than a nautral resource.
